Effective with the reporting period ending in 2014 each licensee must have completed at least three (3) contact hours in the topic of substance abuse to renew the LPN license. This is not a one-time requirement and must be completed during each subsequent reporting period.

Pain Management/ Palliative Care
Effective July 1, 2005, all licensees who have not completed two (2) contact hours in end of life care including pain management will be required to report those hours: (1) at their first licensure renewal when CE is required; or, (2) at the time of reinstatement of a lapsed or inactive license.

Veterans/Family of Veterans
Educational offerings that include information on training on inquiring or inquiring about whether the patients are veterans or family members of veterans, and screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief, and prevention of suicide.
The initial course(s) is at least a total of 2 hours and may be counted as part of the current 12 hour annual CE requirement and must be completed on or before October 31.
After the first 2 hour course, subsequent updates must be at least 2 hours and may be counted as part of the current 12 hour annual CE requirement, and must be completed on or before October 31 of each year.
The training may be in 1 or 2 courses or a portion of a longer program provided the brochure or agenda describes the content and the number of contact hours related to the requirements.
