Nursing Practice Act/ Rules
Florida Laws and Rules will be due beginning with the biennium expiring 2015. See course REL-SC-0-FL-AOFBONNP, An Overview of the Florida Board of Nursing and Nursing Practice.
Each 2 hour laws and rules course composed of current content on Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida Statutes and the rules in Title 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code is approved by the Board.

Opioids and Controlled Substances
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) certified under S. 464.012, F.S. All ARNPs must now complete at least three (3) hours of continuing education on the safe and effective prescription of controlled substances for each biennial renewal.

Patient Safety/Medical Errors and Prevention

(d) Responsibilities for reporting,

Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace
The new 2 CE requirement for the Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace course becomes effective August 1, 2017, then every other biennium thereafter. The first group of nursing professionals to see this requirement will be the ones renewing April 30, 2018
Each course on recognizing impairment in the workplace shall include, at a minimum, the following subject areas:
(1) Identifying the signs of impairment in the workplace;
(2) Employer initiatives to promote safety and provide assistance;
(3) The essential steps to make a report or referral;
(4) Mandatory reporting law, Section 464.018, F.S.;
(5) Treatment programs for impaired practitioners, Section 456.076, F.S.; and,
(6) Impairment treatment.
