New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners Requirements

New Jersey licenses must renew every two years.  The two-year licensing cycle runs September of an even year through August 31 of the following year.  13:44G-7.1(a).
 
All levels of licensure must complete a minimum of three credits of continuing education that is related to social and cultural competence must be completed every biennial period.  13:44G-6.2(c-d). 
 
Certified Social Worker (C.S.W.)
New Jersey certified social workers must complete 20 credits of continuing education every biennial period.  A minimum of five credits of continuing education shall be in content related to ethics. A certified social worker may carry a maximum of four surplus credits of continuing education into the next biennial period.  13:44G-6.2(a)(3). 
 
Licensed Social Worker (L.S.W)
New Jersey licensed social workers must complete 30 credits of continuing education every biennial period.  A minimum of five credits of continuing education shall be in content related to ethics.  A licensed social worker may carry a maximum of six surplus credits of continuing education into the next biennial period.   13:44G-6.2(a)(2). 
 
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.)
New Jersey licensed clinical social workers must complete 40 credits of continuing education every biennial period.  A minimum of 20 credits of continuing education shall be in content directly related to clinical practice.  A minimum of five credits of continuing education shall be in the content related to ethics.  A licensed clinical social worker may carry a maximum of eight surplus credits of continuing education into the next biennial period.  13:44G-6.2(a)(1).
