Course Overview

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age and is one of the leading causes of infertility. PCOS is a complex hormonal disorder that involves multiple organ systems within the body, with a strong correlation to insulin resistance. There is a wide variation in the etiology, signs, and symptoms of PCOS, which makes diagnosing difficult. Individualized treatment plans for PCOS include diet, lifestyle changes, weight reduction, exercise, and medication. Teaching women what they need to do to alleviate the symptoms and prevent the long-term consequences of PCOS will empower them to take back control of their life.
