District of Columbia Department of Health, Emergency Medical Services Requirements

Emergency medical service provider certificates must be renewed every two (2) years by June 30. DCMR 515.13

Emergency medical responder provider certificates must be renewed every two (2) years by December 31. DCMR 515.14

EMS providers in the District of Columbia must maintain a valid NREMT certification card at the same or greater provider level as his or her DC certification. DCMR 515.16. National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) to maintain NREMT certification and DC state licenses. 
 
Requirements for Paramedics:
Valid NREMT Paramedic (or greater) certification card DCMR 520.1(a)
60 hours every two years
 
Requirement for EMT-Is:
Valid NREMT-I99 (or greater) certification card DCMR 519.1(a)
50 hours every two years
 
Requirements for AEMTs:
Valid NREMT-AEMT (or greater) certification card DCMR 518.1(a)
50 hours every two years
 
Requirements for EMTs:                   
Valid NREMT-EMT (or greater) certification card DCMR 517.1(a)
40 hours every two years
 
Requirements for EMRs:
Valid NREMT-first responder (or greater) certification card DCMR 516.1(a)
16 hours every two years
