Using real-life examples from her personal experience, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, MD, explains the use and meaning of end-of-life symbolic language and how clinicians can engage and support patients at this difficult time. In this recording made before she died, Kübler-Ross also discusses the importance of clinicians’ offerings of honesty, hope, and compassion at the end of life. Dianne Gray, president of the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation, provides an introduction to this three-part webinar series.
The goal of this three-part webinar series is to learn about death and dying and the five stages of death based on the seminal work of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the history and key figures in the development of the hospice movement
- Describe how a personal fear of death may impact a healthcare provider’s ability to take care of a patient’s needs
- Distinguish between the use of verbal and non-verbal symbolic language in the dying patient
