Summary:

In part three of this series, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, MD, reviews the specific needs of children in expressing their grief and obstacles clinicians may face in providing compassionate care. In this recording made before she died, Kübler-Ross stresses that healthcare professionals need to be comfortable with their own mortality to support unconditionally those facing the end of life. Kübler-Ross also discusses the differences in patients who have passed away unexpectedly, and how families and clinicians can be supported in the grieving process.

Objectives:

The goal of this three-part webinar series is to learn about death and dying and the five stages of death based on the seminal work of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Contrast the difference between dying adults and dying children
  • Describe how to support family members and next of kin after a patient’s sudden death
  • Explain the needs of clinicians after the sudden death of a patient
