Course Overview

Differing literature findings over the years have shown support for and lack of support for warm handoffs in influencing follow up with other healthcare team members. What does recent literature say? What does a clinical warm handoff approach look like in real life? The state of Pennsylvania has provided a pathway for warm handoff from the emergency department to substance use disorder treatment in order to fight the opioid epidemic. Learn about the process, successes, concerns, and overall outcomes of warm handoffs to drug treatment as seen in Pennsylvania’s collaborative approach to tackle substance misuse.

About the Course Author

Brian is a certified recover specialist and hospital liason for BCARES for the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania. He is a vvolunteer at the Southern Bucks Recovery Community Center and was the specialist who helped to start and oversee the Bucks County warm handoff program.  Brian Kaye, CRS has declared that no conflict of interest, Relevant Financial Relationship or Relevant Non-Financial Relationship exists.
Sarah has a master's degree in healthcare administration. She is currently the Executive Deputy Secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. She has worked as the Special Assistant to the Physician General at the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Sheri is a registered nurse with direct care experience in medical-surgical, mental health, drug and alcohol care. She has worked for managed care organizations and been a senior account manager.
