Course Overview

Tinea capitis, commonly known as ringworm of the scalp, is one of the most common superficial fungal infections in the world. It typically affects school-aged children up to 10 to 12 years old. Tinea capitis infections can be caused by several different dermatophytes, making the clinical presentation unique to the fungus species. Once the fungus species has been identified, it can easily be treated with oral antifungal agents. Education is important to prevent and/or reduce disease transmission to others.
