Course Overview

Cost cutting, changes in healthcare and component shortages affect nurses and pharmacists caring for patients receiving parenteral nutrition. Because many multidisciplinary nutrition support teams have been disbanded as a way to reduce costs, and the use of PN is limited to select groups of patients, the RN has had to become an expert in delivering PN. It is necessary to go beyond the five rights of medication administration to ensure evidence-based interventions and quality outcomes for both adult and pediatric patients receiving PN. This educational activity provides evidence-based guideline information on the safe and effective delivery of PN therapy.
