Summary:

Worldwide, suicide is the 13th leading cause of death, with the highest rates found in countries with advanced healthcare. Those with substance use, borderline personality disorder, anorexia nervosa, depression, and bipolar disorder have the highest risk. One area that has for many years had a higher suicide rate than the national average is the Western states. Washington state ranks 22 among states, with a suicide rate of 15.8 people per 100,000 population — not as significant as some Western states, but still above the national average of 12.93 people per 100,000. This course provides nurses, advanced practice nurses, licensed vocational nurses, physicians, physician assistants, social workers, and psychologists with information about the issue of suicide and its prevention strategies and will help them meet the Washington State requirement on suicide prevention.

Objectives:

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) requires OnCourse Learning to determine the number of clock hours awarded at the completion of new/updated courses through a pilot testing process. Please help us by completing a short, 10-minute survey. A link to the survey will be available on the document provided in place of the certificate at the end of the course. Because the results of the pilot testing will determine how many clock hours this course will be worth, the number of clock hours currently displayed is subject to change. Once the clock hours are finalized, the certificate of completion (with your original pass date) will be available in your transcript. Please call (800) 866-0919 with any questions. Thank you for your assistance.
