Course Overview

This multi-lesson module provides suicide training according to the state of Kentucky requirements. The four lessons cover:
Lesson 1: Best Practices in Suicide Screening and Assessment: provides skills to identify individuals at increased risk of suicide
Lesson 2: Suicide Specific Interventions and Best Practices: provides knowledge about evidence-based, suicide-specific interventions
Lesson 3: Approaches to Community-Based Suicide Prevention: provides information about community-based, upstream suicide prevention approaches
Lesson 4: Addressing Suicide in Adolescents and Transition Age Youth: provides skills for reducing suicide risk in adolescents and transition-age youth
The goal of this course is to provide social workers, marriage and family therapists, occupational therapists, professional counselors, and psychologists in all healthcare settings with training on suicide assessment, treatment, and management that meets the regulatory standards of the state of Kentucky.

About the Course Author

Kathryn Falbo-Woodson, MSW, LCSWA, is a licensed clinical social worker for Atrium Health-Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte and Monroe, NC. She works extensively with adult cancer patients and their family systems in psychotherapy, supportive counseling, and case management throughout diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and death/dying. Kathryn also serves as president for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-NC Chapter and is specially trained in bereavement of survivors of suicide. Kathryn earned her B.A. in psychology from West Virginia University, and her M.S.W. at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, serving as a PrimeCare Scholar and receiving specialized training in integrated healthcare. Kathryn Falbo-Woodson, MSW, LCSWA has declared that no conflict of interest, Relevant Financial Relationship or Relevant Non-Financial Relationship exists.
Monique Kahn, Psy.D. received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She completed a pre-doctoral internship at Spokane Mental Health in Washington, which included specialty rotations in behavioral medicine and time-limited psychotherapies. She is licensed as a psychologist in Maine, where she was in private practice for 14 years, providing services to adult clients with varied presenting issues, but with particular emphasis on the treatment of anxiety disorders, the relationship between psychosocial stress and illness, insomnia, and coping with chronic illness. She has taught in the undergraduate psychology program at Husson University in Maine. In addition, she has worked as a content writer and psychology subject matter expert for several major educational publishing firms. She joined Relias as a clinical content writer and subject matter expert in 2016.
