Summary:

Human trafficking is a widespread form of slavery that exists today, even within the United States. Victims of human trafficking come in all genders, nationalities, sexual orientations, and ethnicities. Modern slavery includes more than just sex trafficking; it can also consist of forced labor, including domestic, industrial, or farm labor. However, most victims in the United States are unwilling participants in the sex trade. This course covers the information, tools, and resources for healthcare teams to identify, assess, and treat victims of human trafficking, and provides referral resources for legal and social services.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program on human trafficking is to provide healthcare professionals with information, tools, and resources to identify, assess, and treat victims of human trafficking as well as provide referral resources for legal and social services. • Describe the types of, risk factors for, and extent of human trafficking in the United States.
  • Discuss the role and responsibilities of the interprofessional healthcare team in the recognition, assessment, and treatment of victims of human trafficking, including management of medical records, patient safety, and referral sources.
