Summary:

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists face many decisions in their practice when working with patients and colleagues. It is incumbent upon professionals to have knowledge about ethical practices in their changing work environment.  A review of the tenets of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Code of Ethics, along with compare and contrast ethical and legal/regulatory issues, and the introduction of an ethical decision-making model will give the healthcare professional procedures to use to evaluate an ethical dilemma and create avenues for its resolution.

Objectives:

By reviewing the tenets of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Code of Ethics, speech-language pathologists, audiologists and researchers can compare ethical and legal/regulatory issues and understand an ethical decision-making model. This approach will give professionals procedures to use to evaluate ethical dilemmas in their own practice and create avenues for its resolution. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe an ethical decision-making model for the professions of speech-language pathology, audiology, and speech-language-hearing scientists.
  • Compare ethical requirements with policy and legal requirements.
  • Identify alternatives to be used when ethical issues arise in clinical practice and workplace environments.

Great course. Very educational. I loved how the questions put you in real life scenarios, instead of just asking questions stated directly in the passage. It really shows your knowledge of the information at hand.
