Summary:

Today, speech-language pathologists and audiologists in all settings are expected to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities. Knowing how to coach (and be coached) is central to helping healthcare professionals develop the skills they need to succeed. Coaching is a continuous, two-way process in which a supervisor shares knowledge and experience with a speech-language pathologist or audiologist to enhance that person’s potential and help the coachee reach agreed-upon goals.

Objectives:

The goal of this coaching continuing education program is to provide speech-language pathologists and audiologists with evidence-based information about the relationship of coaching to career development and achieving goals and outcomes. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Name the two key components crucial to coaching.
  • Describe at least three outcomes that may be obtained for speech-language. pathologists and audiologists through coaching relationships.
  • Describe supportive and initiating behaviors in the coaching relationship.
