Evidence-based practice (EBP) is at the forefront of clinical decision making in speech-language pathology. Professionals must have a clear understanding of its principles to effectively apply it to daily practice. Patient/family values are an integral part of EBP. Clinicians develop expertise through didactic and mentored clinical learning opportunities. Speech-language pathologists search for evidence in the literature using well-focused clinical questions and search terms.
The content in this course is applicable to speech language pathologists.

The goal of this educational course is to provide speech-language pathologists working in medical settings with a model of how to organize their work to facilitate implementation of evidence-based practice.  After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Identify the components of EBP and evaluate evidence from the literature.
  • Discuss a plan to assess the fidelity with which evidence-based treatment methods are implemented in clinical settings.
  • Discuss a plan to enhance valid and reliable evaluation and interpretation of treatment outcomes
  • Summarize a plan to ensure that patient/family values are an integral part of clinical decision making.
