Summary:

Children frequently develop respiratory infections. This course will inform clinicians about viral and bacterial respiratory infections that affect children so clinicians can recognize the diseases and provide the most effective care. This module will discuss respiratory syncytial virus, bronchiolitis, viral croup and associated croup syndromes, epiglottitis, pertussis, viral and nonviral pneumonia, and prevention of pneumonia in the pediatric age group.

Objectives:

The purpose of this pediatric respiratory infection continuing education course is to inform clinicians about viral and bacterial respiratory infections that affect children so that they will be able to recognize the diseases and provide the most effective care. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Differentiate among several pediatric respiratory infections
  • Describe the clinical manifestations of each respiratory infection
  • Discuss the methods used to make a definitive diagnosis for each respiratory infection
  • Explain clinical care for each respiratory infection
  • Identify infection control practices to prevent the nosocomial spread of respiratory infection
 
The Florida Board of Respiratory Care will not accept contact hours offered in tenth hour increments (example: 1.6 contact hours). Course contact hours will be rounded down to the nearest half hour (example: 1.6 contact hours becomes 1.5 contact hours, 1.4 contact hours becomes 1.0 contact hours). This course will be reported to CE Broker for FL Respiratory Care Practitioners Critical Care, Respiratory Care Practitioners Non-Critical Care, Registered Respiratory Therapists, and Certified Respiratory Therapists as 5.5 hours.

This article is a little long but it is detail and necessary in order to describe just a small section for pediatric infections. I will say this article is good to read.
