About 6% to 20% of American adults suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that often goes undiagnosed. This disorder contributes to other serious medical conditions and, in fact, increases the risk of stroke or death from any cause. Risk factors, diagnosis, and management of OSA will be addressed in this activity.

The goal of this continuing education program is to update nurses’, physicians’, and respiratory therapists’ ability to identify symptoms and treatments for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify three symptoms of OSA
  • Describe three risk factors for OSA
  • List three treatment options for OSA
