Respiratory care practitioners in Florida are obligated to understand current laws and rules that govern the practice of respiratory care. The right to practice respiratory care is granted by states to protect patients who need respiratory care services, and respiratory therapists are obligated to provide care under the rules of Florida’s Respiratory Care Act. This two-hour course includes information from Florida Statutes Chapter 456, which applies to all licensed healthcare professionals; Chapter 468, Part V, The Respiratory Care Act; and Chapter 64B32 of the Florida Administrative Code.
The goal of this respiratory care law continuing education program is to familiarize respiratory care practitioners in Florida with current laws and the rules that govern the practice of respiratory care. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and intent of the law
- List the duties of the Florida Board of Respiratory Care
- List requirements for licensure, renewal, and reactivation
- Explain the requirements for continuing education
- Describe disciplinary guidelines and recommended penalties
