The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthy People initiative provides evidence-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. For three decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time to 1) encourage collaborations across communities and sectors, 2) empower individuals to make informed health decisions and 3) measure the impact of prevention activities. Healthcare professionals should be informed about this initiative so that they can educate and encourage patients to participate in disease-prevention strategies. Part 2 emphasizes the role of registered dietitians, respiratory therapists and nurses.
The purpose of this program is to inform healthcare professionals about the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthy People initiative and to review selected objectives related to diet and nutrition, food safety, respiratory diseases and tobacco use.
