Weight gain and body composition changes associated with menopause are among the most common concerns of menopausal women, along with hot flashes, sleep problems, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, and mood swings. Changes in body shape can have a profound effect on a woman’s self-image and self-esteem. Understanding the metabolic changes that menopause causes, and their effect on body shape and weight, is critical in helping women prevent and combat the changes to her body. The goal of this course is to provide healthcare providers with information on menopause, its role in weight gain, and subsequent changes in body fat distribution.

After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the physiology of menopause and its influence on hormone levels.
  • Describe the effect of menopause on body fat distribution and metabolic syndrome.
  • Discuss diet and exercise strategies to minimize weight gain during menopause.

Not worth my time. I just did not think the information was particularly clear or helpful to a practicing dietitian.
