Enhanced athletic performance is the culmination of training, genetics and healthy eating. Nutrition is especially important to recreational and competitive athletes. It is necessary for maintaining energy levels during training; achieving target performance, body composition and weight goals; and reducing the incidence of illness and injury. This course will provide a unique opportunity to learn professional and practical approaches to working with athletes of all skill levels, from recreational athletes to Olympian athletes, to help each achieve personal bests in health, sport and life.
The goal of this nutrition and athletics continuing education course about optimal nutrition for athletes is to educate registered dietitian nutritionists and other healthcare professionals working with recreational and competitive athletes about professional and practical nutrition strategies for assessing, guiding, and supporting recreational to professional athletes. - Summarize carbohydrate, protein, and fat needs for training and competition, and offer fuel and fluid strategies for implementation before, during, and after a workout
- Consider specific issues that may challenge the athlete’s ability to attain, maintain, and sustain peak physical performance in sport, such as iron-deficiency anemia and eating disorders
