Standard nursing home surveys are conducted in every nursing facility that accepts Medicare and Medicaid program funds for healthcare services rendered. Surveyors use many definitions outlined in the investigative protocol for F325, during the inspection conducted in long-term care facilities. These assessment parameters are no different from the assessment parameters defined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics standards of practice. This course addresses the gap in knowledge of registered dieticians and certified dietary managers concerning the nutritional needs of long-term care residents and how to assess, document and implement a nutrition care plan that is compliant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations and prevent survey citations.
The goal of this course is to learn how to properly assess, document and implement a nutrition care plan in long-term care that is compliant with CMS regulations and prevent survey citations. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Review the definitions of nutritional status used in the survey process
- Explain the reasons why not all weight loss in the elderly can be prevented
- Use nutrition assessment data to complete an in-depth nutrition assessment
- Prevent citations in long-term care
- Discuss how the survey process is related to nutritional care
The course is intended for nutrition professionals
