Ebola is no longer a tropical disease that occurs only in isolated regions of Africa. It has crossed borders through highly populated areas and reached the U.S. Global efforts will be required to stop continued spread. As with other infectious diseases, prevention is the best defense. Healthcare professionals armed with knowledge are crucial to this process and well suited to provide the best care possible to those who have been stricken with Ebola virus disease (EVD).This module provides healthcare professionals with evidence-based information about EVD to guide detection of cases, prevent transmission of infection, safely manage patients with the disease and interprofessional care.
The goal of this Ebola virus continuing education program is to provide healthcare professionals with evidence-based information about Ebola virus disease (EVD) to guide detection of cases, prevent transmission of infection, safely manage patients with the disease and interprofessional care. After studying the information provided here, you will be able to:
- Describe the clinical features of EVD
- Explain the screening process for the identification of probable and possible cases of EVD
- Identify appropriate isolation precautions to use to safely manage patients with EVD
- Discuss the importance of interprofessional care of patients with suspected or known EVD
This course is intended for imaging and radiation therapists.
