Summary:

Quality assurance (QA) is defined as all planned and systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that a facility, system, or administrative component will perform safely and satisfactorily in service to a patient. It includes scheduling of, preparation for, and promptness in examination or treatment; reporting of results; and quality control (QC). QC, which is a component of QA, is defined as all actions necessary to control and verify the performance of equipment.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide imaging technologists with information regarding QA, QC, and artifacts in CT. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss QA/QC for CT
  • Define the term artifact
  • Identify the types and appearance of artifacts most commonly affecting CT images
  • Explain how artifacts can be reduced or eliminated
