Summary:

Sex is an activity of daily living (ADL), yet many clinicians do not feel comfortable or capable of addressing it in practice. This course will identify evidence-based strategies for starting the conversation, along with resources for education and intervention for clients across the lifespan and with varying diagnoses. To truly be holistic and patient-centered, clinicians must address sexuality and intimacy regardless of setting or client population.

Objectives:

The goal of this course is to discuss the concept of an interdisciplinary approach to sexual health, and provide tools for professional conversations about sexuality in healthcare. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Explain core concepts related to sexuality, sexual health, and sexual function.
  • Describe specific interventions for sexual health, particularly for patients with disabilities.
  • Discuss barriers to and strategies for addressing sex, intimacy, and sexual health across the lifespan.
