Perseveration and other related utilization behaviors are quite common in traumatic brain injury when damage is sustained to the frontal lobes. These behaviors can be frustrating and can cause unnecessary interruption to treatment. Understanding the differences between these behaviors and how to redirect or limit their occurrence during treatment can be valuable.

The goal of this continuing education program is to educate speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists about perseveration, stimulus-bound behavior, and environmental dependency syndrome, explore the characteristics of each, and discuss strategies for intervention. After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Identify at least three types of perseverative responses.
  • Cite at least three examples of stimulus-bound behavior.
  • Discuss at least two approaches for ameliorating stimulus-bound behavior.

Did not feel as if the course correlated to the test questions well - the vigniette also did not help. I was able to use my own knowledge for the test, rather than learn new information from the course
