This course will help therapy professionals differentiate between the most common causes of headache: migraine, tension-type, and secondary (e.g., cervicogenic) headaches. As part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, therapist must have an understanding of current medical and therapeutic treatment options for headaches and what their role is in providing care.

The goal of this continuing education program is to inform physical therapy practitioners of the different types of headaches and describe various treatment options for each.

  • Identify the four headache classifications.
  • Describe the signs and symptoms of three common headache disorders seen in physical therapy clinics.
  • Describe pharmacologic treatments for headache disorder and the importance of adherence to medicinal protocols.
  • Summarize current evidence for physical therapy interventions to reduce headaches.
