Lipedema is an often overlooked disease that primarily affects women. It is characterized by a gradual and chronic progressive symmetrical accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous tissue, typically seen in the buttocks and lower extremities that can be painful. The goal of this program is to provide physical therapists with an overview of lipedema, including etiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, treatment options, and differential diagnosis with lymphedema.
