Summary:

Lipedema is an often overlooked disease that primarily affects women. It is characterized by a gradual and chronic progressive symmetrical accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous tissue, typically seen in the buttocks and lower extremities that can be painful. The goal of this program is to provide physical therapists with an overview of lipedema, including etiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, treatment options, and differential diagnosis with lymphedema.

Objectives:

The goal of this lipedema continuing education program is to provide physical therapists with an overview of lipedema, including etiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, treatment options, and differential diagnosis with lymphedema. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, and risk factors of lipedema
  • Describe how lipedema is diagnosed and treated
  • Compare and contrast the disease process and treatment of lymphedema with that of lipedema

I become more aware to differentiate between what is lipedema and lymphedema, this good information will change the way a treat my patients .
