Course Overview

Surgeons perform surgery on patients with pilonidal sinus disease with the assistance of a CST or CSFA. A pilonidal cyst is a benign condition associated with the inflammation of the hair follicle and commonly occurs on the dorsal aspect of the patient between the sacrum and the anus (often referred to as the natal cleft or sacrococcygeal region). When the hair follicle becomes infected, it needs to be surgically incised and drained. CSTs and CSFAs need continuing education on this procedure and in all different educational areas to increase their knowledge.
