Course Overview

Peer-mediated intervention involves training peers without disabilities to be responsive social partners to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Training is provided to both peers and students with ASD regarding effective methods of initiating and responding to each other within structured and routine social contexts (e.g., centers, recess, or small groups) to increase social reciprocity, positive interactions, and friendships. This module describes strategies to train child peers without disabilities to be responsive social partners to young children with ASD.
