Course Overview

Children with neuromuscular conditions often rely on adaptive equipment to enhance independence and function and prevent progression of secondary impairments. Standing frames or "standers" are often recommended for children who are nonambulatory or present with limited ability to independently stand. Physical and occupational therapy professionals must understand the available devices and the principles, indications, contraindications, and precautions for standing when working with or making recommendations for these devices.

About the Course Author

Sara completed her Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Temple University in June 2005. She has extensive experience in pediatric hospital-based setting where she works with a variety of diagnoses across the developmental span of birth to young adults in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient settings. Experience includes working with diagnoses including neurological, orthopedic, congenital cardiac conditions, oncological, chronic pain disorders and developmental delay. She also has experience working in aquatic therapy across all diagnoses and ages. In addition, she has experience in the field of academia where she has worked as an adjunct faculty, provided lectures and completed grading for research-based projects and portfolios for an occupational therapy graduate program.
