Course Overview

The refusal of blood is no longer just a religious issue. For religious and secular reasons, many people of all faiths and persuasions are looking for blood transfusion alternatives. Healthcare providers need to assess and treat patients holistically, taking both physical and spiritual well-being into consideration. A few key practices universal to transfusion-free care are conservation, prompt treatment, minimally invasive procedure choices, and maximizing a patient‘s own blood supply. The goal of this program is to update nurses‘ ability to care for patients who refuse blood or blood products while seeking healthcare.
