Summary:

This continuing education course provides information about common autoimmune diseases in women and their treatment. By ensuring that patients have the essential information about self-care, signs and symptoms, medications, and resources, healthcare professionals play a vital role in caring for patients with lifelong, chronic autoimmune diseases. This course provides an overview of autoimmune diseases and highlights five common autoimmune diseases.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program is to inform nurses, health educators, dietitians and occupational therapists about the principal autoimmune diseases, including their causes, treatment, and nursing care issues. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss at least four causes of autoimmune diseases
  • List two reasons for female predominance in autoimmune diseases
  • Describe general treatments for autoimmune diseases

Helpful for understanding the classifications and causes of autoimmune diseases. Would like more information on how an occupational therapist may work with someone with these diseases.

Good presentation of differential diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. Not really any focus on OT role in therapy/treatment of client's with autoimmune disease.
