Don’t be caught unprepared during the unexpected. Natural disasters are more common than we think and can strike at any moment. Healthcare professionals and the staff they manage must be ready to jump in with both feet when floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and the like threaten their community. This course will equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and resources necessary to conduct disaster-planning activities in their hospitals or healthcare facilities.
The goal of this emergency and disaster preparation continuing education program is to teach healthcare professionals strategies to plan for disasters, either man-made or natural. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Identify the four components of disaster preparedness
- Describe how hospitals interact with the community to conduct a Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA) and prepare an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
- Discuss how to create an internal communications system, prepare a reserve foods list, meet hygiene needs, and create a manpower resource audit
