The HIV epidemic has slowed from a period of rapid growth during the mid- to late 1980s to a more stable epidemic. Florida, however, leads all states in reporting of new HIV infections in 2013. While the number of patients benefiting from antiretroviral therapy is significant, not all patients obtain maximal benefit related to a varied factors, including the continued associated stigma of HIV-associated disease.
