What types of people do well with online education? Have you ever wondered if you would be successful as an online learner? What about OTs in general? We are usually people oriented and count on face-to-face interaction to help us make sense of information. We’re trained to identify and use nonverbal information, and we tend not to be “techies.” So how could online learning work for us? There are ways to evaluate if you’re a good match for getting professional development units, continuing education courses, or even an advanced degree through online learning programs. First, exploring the fit between the typical OT learner and e-learning can help you decide if you’re a good candidate for online education. Another way to determine if online learning is a good fit for you involves using the Myers-Briggs Inventory to compare and contrast temperamental characteristics of OTs in general related to e-leaning as well as specific learner outcomes.

The goal of this program is to increase OTs’ understanding of learning styles and how they fit with online learning platforms. After you study the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Describe successful elements of effective e-learning programs.
  • Evaluate OTs’ learning styles per the Myers-Briggs Inventory and determine how temperament characteristics fit with online learning platforms.
  • Analyze your own learning needs to see if online learning pedagogies might provide opportunities for your own professional development.

While some areas are interesting, this is an unecessary course for continuing education. It more fits into an Advance Magazine, where this topic has been presented before. I have received my online doctorate where there was good interaction. In terms of CE direct, there are just articles to read and no dynamics behind the courses. So this type of course does not fill the profile of online learning as noted in this course.
