Course Overview

Optimal athletic performance requires optimal physical training, nutrition, hydration, and adequate rest. A balanced diet that matches training intensity, duration, and performance needs is especially important to every athlete, whether novice, recreational, or competitive. Nutrition is necessary for maintaining energy levels and stamina during training; achieving target weight, body composition, and performance goals; adequately recovering from training and competition; and reducing the incidence of illness and injury.  This course provides readers with an understanding of the unique dietary needs, requirements, opportunities, and challenges associated with feeding the recreational to competitive athlete. It outlines scientific and physiological principles of sports nutrition and performance, and provides formulas for calculating energy and macronutrient requirements, practical information to support training and competition, and the efficacy of popular dietary trends and supplementation.
