Course Overview

Emphasis: Two cases are presented. Risk factors, including recurring and nonrecurring, for obstetrical hemorrhage are reviewed. Delivery preparations and preventative strategies are discussed. Methodologies that better quantify blood loss allowing for earlier recognition of excessive blood loss are presented. Management of the patient experiencing obstetrical hemorrhage including a review of current guidelines for blood component replacement therapy are reviewed.

Dr. Cusick earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed his residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Post-residency, he completed a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Cusick is board-certified in OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, is an ARDMS-accredited sonographer, and is certified in first-trimester screening through the Fetal Medicine Foundation. He is an assistant clinical professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and at the Quinnipiac University Frank Netter School of Medicine. Dr. Cusick holds membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and serves on the board of The Fetal Medicine Foundation.
