Meeting Parents More Than Halfway: Strategies for Effective Parent Participation in Intervention

Course Overview

Because parents are with their children for many hours each day, their participation in speech-language intervention greatly impacts the effectiveness of the intervention strategies. Speech-language intervention services for young children require commitment and follow-through from parents. Because the degree and type of participation that parents engage in depends on many factors, SLPs must be attuned and responsive to parent needs. This continuing education program focuses on how both SLPs and parents perceive parents’ participation, as well as the roles of SLPs in providing education, resources, and functional outcomes for children and families, guidance in accessing services and navigating systems, and fostering collaborative relationships with families.
