Lymphedema is a chronic and progressive condition resulting from an abnormality of or damage to the lymphatic system. Due to the progressive and incurable nature of lymphedema, it is of the utmost importance to diagnose and manage this condition as soon as possible, so that the best possible outcomes can be realized. There are multiple classifications in the literature used to describe lymphedema. The ability to differentially diagnose and understand the various treatment options available is critically important in obtaining optimal patient outcomes.
The goal of this continuing education program is to help physical therapists effectively and efficiently assess, educate, and manage patients with lymphedema and to properly screen and differentiate diagnosing patients with lymphedema or other similar conditions, thereby facilitating the decision-making process.
