To date, healthcare professionals such as pharmacists, technicians, and physicians, have been involved in fraudulent activity at the level of retail pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, online pharmacies, healthcare systems, pharmaceutical manufacturers, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers. There have been many recent examples and schemes of pharmacy fraud taking place across the country, some of which involve false claims, kickbacks, or inappropriate billing, in exchange for monetary gain. In most cases, these cases are direct violations of fraud and abuse laws, including False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark Law), OIG Exclusion Statute, and Civil Monetary Penalties Law (CMPL), despite the fact that healthcare professionals are meant to uphold these laws to better serve patients.

The goal of this program is to educate pharmacists and technicians about pharmacy fraud by providing recent examples from across the United States and to discuss ways to combat pharmacy fraud altogether. At the end of this program, the learner will be able to:
  • Identify current federal laws and policies around pharmacy fraud and highlight recent examples of pharmacy fraud cases across the United States.
  • Recognize the various types of pharmacy fraud that occur in multiple practice settings.
  • Discuss established methods to combat pharmacy fraud.

There was a lot of information packed into two pages. Trying to understand this information through reading alone was difficult.

The course is good, not overly complicated, and with great listed examples. There were a few grammar/typo errors, and most notable was an apparent error in the PMP section where it stated that "Most programs can fall into the following 4 categories of monitoring" and then it listed 2 categories, both listed twice.
