Course Overview

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most commonly diagnosed GI disorder in the United States. It can limit activities of daily living, productivity, socialization, and travel, significantly decreasing quality of life. It is well accepted that food plays a role in IBS; however, there is no one food that causes everyone to have symptoms, and there is no one diet to manage symptoms. Practitioners working with IBS patients need to know how to design an individualized diet using accepted management practices and new diet and integrative therapies. The goal of this course is to educate healthcare professionals about IBS, treatment options, dietary and lifestyle modifications, supplements, and pharmacological agents that can help patients manage symptoms with this chronic condition.
