Course Overview

Because infectious outbreaks from contaminated food are such a problem in the United States, healthcare professionals in all settings need to be familiar with the common foodborne pathogens that can be present in home, restaurant, and even hospital kitchens. With this knowledge, healthcare professionals can provide education about proper food preparation, inform special patient populations about foods to avoid, and care for patients who have contracted a foodborne illness.

About the Course Author

Connie Chettle is a retired epidemiologist and contributor to Relias continuing education courses. She has worked as a nurse expert witness on fungal infection, responsible for all infection control functions for prevention of nosocomial infections in patients, staff and visitors.  She was also responsible for employee health reviews, immunizations, triage for injured workers, workers compensation injury and case management for 2100 plus employees.
