Course Overview

This course provides pharmacy technicians with updated knowledge of drug therapies for weight loss. The first portion of the course covers how to identify a patient that could benefit from weight loss medication followed by current drugs that are indicated for weight loss. Dosing, contraindications, side effects, expected benefits, and important patient counseling information for each drug is provided. Misconceptions about weight loss are covered. Several off-label drug efficacy studies are reviewed. Lastly, monitoring and patient follow up is discussed. Patient follow-up is important to patient treatment because drug efficacy can vary by patient which makes drug changes common.
