Summary:

Adhesions commonly form following abdominal trauma or surgical procedures. Laparoscopic procedures are the direction of treatment and visualization for abdominal surgeries. This allows surgeons to see, diagnose, and treat adhesions through minimally invasive surgery. Laparoscopic procedures are now the standard of care for hospitals. 

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide surgical technologists with information about lysis of adhesions using laparoscopy, when it is utilized and its potential complications. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe how laparoscopic lysis of adhesions is performed
  • Discuss the placement of trocars and the camera for laparoscopic lysis of adhesions
  • List the complications of laparoscopic lysis of adhesions
