Course Overview

Primary care is the setting through which most individuals access the healthcare system, making it the prime setting for identifying and initiating substance[C1]  use disorder treatment. Integrating treatment professionals into the primary care setting can enhance the quality and effectiveness of substance use services, leading to better patient outcomes and lower costs.

This course will educate learners about how substance abuse problems can be addressed in the context of collaborative care. Evidence-based strategies for providing screening, brief Intervention, and referral to treatment that are appropriate in primary care will also be discussed.
