Summary:

Lymphedema and wounds associated with it represent a difficult issue to deal with, primarily because the lymphatic system does not neatly fall into any medical specialty, and consequently few clinicians are well versed in its pathophysiology or treatment. The aim of this course is to increase awareness and introduce healthcare providers to emerging modalities and therapeutic options available for treatment of lymphedema and like diseases, such as lipedema and lipo-lymphedema.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program is to increase awareness of and introduce healthcare providers to emerging modalities and therapeutic options available for treatment of lymphedema and like diseases, such as lipedema and lipo-lymphedema. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Recognize critical anatomical and clinical elements of lymphedema
  • Distinguish lymphedema from lipedema
  • Describe potential cutaneous complications of lymphedema
  • Formulate an effective interprofessional management plan of lymphedema and wounds associated with it
