Summary:

Perioperative and perianesthesia team members can help patients by being knowledgeable of the risks of malignant hyperthermia and its signs and symptoms, by implementing evidence-based care, and by educating patients and families about MH. This module provides that information.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide OR nurses, physicians, and surgical technologists with information about malignant hyperthermia, including perioperative signs and management of the patient. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify patients at risk for malignant hyperthermia
  • Differentiate the early and late signs and symptoms of malignant hyperthermia
  • Describe diagnosis and treatment of malignant hyperthermia
