Course Overview

Clinical assessment uses a multidimensional and holistic approach to understanding a client in his or her environment. A psychosocial assessment helps the clinician to understand external influences that can have an impact on the client‘s symptoms. The assessment includes a comprehensive evaluation of different aspects of biological, psychological and social functioning. Single-system designs are used to evaluate outcomes of an intervention. Data are collected using either standardized or nonstandardized assessment tools. A clinician can select one of several designs, depending upon the type of outcomes that will be evaluated. Once data are collected prior to and during the intervention, the information can be illustrated on a graph to provide the client with a visual representation of progress toward the target goals.

Godfrey A. Gregg, PhD, MSW, received his baccalaureate degree from Hamilton College, and his MSW from Fordham University. After earning his MSW, he completed his analytical training at the Training Institute for Mental Health Practitioners. Following analytic training he began his doctoral studies at The Silver School of Social Work New York University. Dr. Gregg's research focuses on breast cancer and Black American women and the use of advance care planning among minority populations. Currently, he is a Clinical Associate Professor at Adelphi University's School of Social Work and he also maintains a private practice in New York City. Teresa Crowe, PhD, LICSW, LCSWC is a licensed clinical social worker in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She coordinates a telemental health program for deaf children and adults through Arundel Lodge, Inc. located in Edgewater, MD.  Her recent research focuses on deaf and hard of hearing populations, especially in the areas of behavioral health, intimate partner violence, telemental health, well-being, resilience, and help-seeking.
